NEW YORK CITY, N.Y., Aug. 17, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Lounge Lizard is globally recognized as a top web design company within the web design and development industry. Lounge Lizard's brandtenders are creative, tech-savvy, and passionate in developing innovative strategies that drive conversion for both startup and established clients of all industries, making them the "best of breed since 1998."

Great SEO is something you have to consistently work at. Even if you launch a website with your search engine optimization at perfect levels, it simply won't stay that way. It is a lot like keeping your car looking good; periodically you need to wash it, wax it, vacuum and the like to keep everything at showroom quality. NY based web design company, Lounge Lizard, shares Top Tips for cleaning up your SEO.

1.     Scrub your links. Links are an area that regularly needs cleaning to ensure your site is ranking as high as possible. Backlinks should be analyzed with low quality or broken links removed. Internally links need to be reviewed so that you don't have any 404 or 301 errors with broken links redirected properly. Better yet re-create pages with updated URLs if needed as 301s can slow down your server response time, something Google does not like.

2.     Cleanup Title tags. Title tags and Meta descriptions are pretty important to the overall optimization of your site. They both need to be synchronized properly with keyword choices to insure that you are maximize traffic and getting the highest click-through-rates possible.

3.     Remove bad content. Bad content is a bit general. By this we mean low-quality or expired content because both of those will reduce your SEO rankings. Low ranking pieces of content reduce your overall authority. These should be removed and those topics then considered for future content. Expired content would be something that is now out of date or irrelevant and should be removed or updated. By doing this you will speed up the crawling and indexing time, reduce phantom penalties and send better engagement signals.

4.     Local business listings. With an increased focus on local search within SEO, taking the time to scrub your local business listings is important. In some cases you might have signed up for numerous local listings when your business launched but since that point they have not been updated. Sites like Yelp, Infogroup, Localeze, or even the local Chamber of Commerce have certain key pieces of information about your business from address and phone number to website URL and social media accounts. If there are inconsistencies between multiple data sources it can cause confusion in search engines. Using sites like Getlisted.org or BrightLocal can help you find all of your business listings so that you can make sure they are up to date.

5.     Clean up WordPress.  WordPress is a great tool but is also one that requires regular cleaning to ensure it is running at optimum performance. Broken links should be fixed. HTML and headers should be cleaned up. Unwanted or unused themes and plugins should be deleted. Unused short-codes should be hidden and unused tags should be removed. Revisions of old posts should be deleted along with unused images to reduce database bloat.
